Volkswagen Polo GTI: Performance meets practicality
The Volkswagen Polo GTI is a compact family hatchback with enough space to be practical whilst delivering pocket rocket performance. It’s compared to the likes of the Hyundai I20 N or the late Ford Fiesta ST. While the Fiesta may be a popular sporty hatchback, the VW Polo GTI presents a touch of refined class in comparison.
What is the Polo GTI interior like?
The VW Polo GTI offers an upmarket interior which reflects its stature and brand. The materials and trim carry over from the existing Polo which already stood tall with its quality interior panels. Compare this with the more plasticky surfaces found in the Fiesta ST and you start to see how it stands above in quality.
Along with a refined cockpit, the VW Polo GTI comes fitted with supportive sport seats featuring the iconic GTI tartan. It’s the small touches that add up, in this case the red inserts dotted around the interior and a sharp and vibrant digital instrument panel which further pushes the premium narrative.
How well does the Polo GTI drive?
The sporty additions really don’t take away from the fact that the VW Polo GTI is a practical car which makes for a wonderful daily driver, offering comfort for the commute and performance for the country lanes. Not only that, but the little hot hatch is ahead when it comes to space in the boot, providing significantly more than its competitors.
Hit the country roads and that’s where you’ll really see the VW Polo GTI shine. With it’s powerful 2.0 litre turbocharged engine and its throaty exhaust, there’s no denying that it stands apart. With 207hp it isn’t a slouch, and the sporty suspension helps to really keep it cemented on the road.
Is the Volkswagen Polo GTI a practical car?
Day to day use of the car shows off its practical nature, quieter motorway driving, and long-distance commutes go hand in hand. The car features an adaptive cruise control with follow-to-stop making those long drives even easier. The icing on the cake is the automatic DSG gearbox which comes standard with the VW Polo GTI.
Unlike the VW Polo GTI Competitors, the Polo comes with a central armrest, something you’re not likely to find in other cars of the same size. That’s true for a lot of practical features on the car, such as various storage areas dotted around the car.
The addition of the sporty suspension on the Polo GTi does influence the boot space available, it goes from a 351l in the standard Polo, to 303l in the GTI. While this may seem like less, when stacked up against the Fiesta ST, it still has more space.
